A quick check-in and an exciting request for your input! After a stubborn back injury kept me away from the microphone last week, I am resting up off-camera and planning our next slate of standalone Epi Edit deep dives.
These standalone episodes are our space to pull back the curtain on the science, population data, and systemic healthcare policies that shape cancer care. But before hitting record on the next round, I want to know what you need and want to learn about most.
I've outlined six potential topics to explore:
1. Does Stress Really Play a Role in Cancer? Parsing biological data from "toxic positivity."
2. Clinical Trials as Treatment: Why trials exist, the history of research ethics in the U.S., and modern access barriers.
3. The Geography of Cancer Survival: How rural hospital closures, travel burdens, and provider deserts dictate outcomes.
4. Intergenerational Trauma & Epigenetics: Can the exposures and traumas of our ancestors leave molecular footprints in our DNA?
5. The Family Tree as an Epidemiologic Cohort: How historical vital records reveal multi-generational patterns standard clinic intake forms miss.
6. The Unspoken Epidemiology of Survivorship: Late-onset cardiac, metabolic, and physical realities long after "ringing the bell."
Have an idea that isn't on this list? The survey has an open space to submit your own burning questions directly!
Coming Soon on Changed By Cancer:
Stay tuned for upcoming guest episodes, including a conversation with a woman who discovered in her late 20s that a pattern of early family losses was driven by an inherited genetic mutation, alongside an interview with a clinical cancer genetic counselor.
